Notes
- This self guided tour should be done if all other things in Sydney has "been there, done that" - its a tour designed to give you a real feel for Sydney outer suburbs - it is designed to waste time.
- The line on the map above IS ONLY A GUIDE AND IS NOT ACCURATE - because different buses will take you on different routes to get to Castlereagh road - what is important is that you read the train stations marked.
- Although I think that traveling on Sydney trains is safe, you will be passing through some areas of Sydney that have a less than perfect reputation, so please make sure you travel near the guards compartment for your own safety while on the train
- The bus part of this guide is the most important feature of this tour, so if you miss anything on the train, do not worry, the most important thing is the views from the bus
- Very little walking is done - most of this activity is done on public transport
Do
- Do MAKE SURE you plan this trip before you do this - read our Getting about article. especially since the last bus service is about 18:00 hrs (6 pm) - make sure the bus service is Richmond - Penrith via Agnes Banks, Castlereagh & Cranebrook service
- Do travel near the guards compartment on the train - marked with a blue light - usually located in the center of the train
- Do read all the pins on the map above as alot of items for viewing are on the way through.
- Do stop and have lunch at local shops in Richmond
- Do stop and take a look around Penrith shopping shops
- Do take a fast mountains train from Penrith station back to Central
- Do take your time, and enjoy the views.
- Do watch the scenery of the Blue Mountains from the bus.
Do NOT
- Do NOT GET OFF THE BUS between Richmond and Penrith station because there is nothing there to see.
- Do NOT get on the bus service Richmond to Penrith via Londonderry service
- Do NOT leave your bus trip too late because bus services finish early
- Do NOT ask the bus driver to stop and take photographs and hold up the bus.
- Do NOT worry about trains back to the city from either Richmond or Penrith stations - there are trains until late - you just have to worry about the bus service.
Minimum Checklist
- Did view the Mountains from the train on the way to Richmond station and sat in the grandstand?
- Did walk around Richmond Park and sat in the grandstand?
- Did view the Mountains from bus?
- Did check out Penrith shopping centre?
- Did relax and enjoy the journey via bus - not just the destination?
